Inland Tuscany, near Volterra
After the Etruscan walls and alabaster workshops of Volterra, the geothermal valleys of Larderello and the medieval hill towns, the Val di Cecina rewards you with its other great pleasure: the table. Osteria del Cinghiale is in Riparbella, at Località Il Giardino 44, in the wooded inland between Volterra and the coast — about 35 minutes from Volterra and 25 from Montecatini Val di Cecina. Here you eat the cooking of the land: pappardelle with wild boar, peposo, Florentine steak over the embers, fresh pasta and vegetarian dishes. Free parking, a garden, a room that feels like home.
From the menu
Fresh egg pasta dressed with a slow-cooked wild boar ragù, red wine and woodland spices. The osteria's signature dish — the one worth the drive.
Wild boar marinated and braised slowly with black olives, tomato and aromatic herbs. The recipe of Tuscan tradition, made the way it was in the old Maremma farms.
Steak grilled over embers, only selected cuts. The queen of Tuscan cooking, for those who prefer the grill to game. And for everyone else: burrata ravioli, peposo, vegetarian dishes.
